This tour is perfect for travelers who want to experience Lake Titicaca but have limited time in the area.

Overview

Lake Titicaca has long been considered a sacred place by the native and indigenous peoples of the region. The local communities regard themselves as descendants of Mama Cocha, the sacred water, as Lake Titicaca is believed to be the birthplace of civilization and the Inca Empire. According to legend, Wiracocha, the Andean creator deity, sent the Inca brothers to illuminate this region, especially the Cusco Valley.

The lake is a dazzling sight, with deep azure waters seemingly stretching endlessly across the Altiplano under a vast sky. At an elevation of 4,000 meters (13,000 feet), it is the highest navigable lake in the world. Lake Titicaca has been inhabited for thousands of years, and its floating islands are made from totora reeds, which serve as homes for local communities. Today, thousands of tourists visit the lake each year, offering an unforgettable experience that combines natural beauty, culture, and history.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Andahuaylillas – Raqchi – La Raya – Puno.

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at the bus station. This scenic bus journey is more than just transportation—it’s a tour, with stops at four fascinating sites along the way, each with guided visits and a lunch stop at a local restaurant.

Places we will visit:

  • Andahuaylillas – The Sistine Chapel of South America: One of the most beautiful examples of Andean religious art, this church showcases stunning frescoes and colonial architecture.
  • Raqchi – Temple of Wiracocha: An impressive Incan temple measuring 100 meters long, 26 meters wide, and 14 meters high, divided into two naves featuring 11 giant columns each.
  • La Raya: The halfway point between Cusco and Puno, and the highest point of the route at 4,335 meters above sea level. Enjoy breathtaking Andean landscapes and spot llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas. La Raya is also the cultural border between the Quechua and Aymara peoples.
  • Pukara: The oldest and most important ceremonial center of the Altiplano, known for its life-like sculptures and ancient tombs.

The trip also includes a delicious buffet lunch along the route, giving you a full cultural and culinary experience as you travel across the Peruvian Andes.

Between 7:40 AM and 8:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the port. From there, a motorboat will take you to one of the legendary Uros Islands, where you can observe the daily lives of the Uros people living on the floating reed islands.

After a scenic three-hour boat ride, we reach Taquile Island, where small groups stay with local families. You will have the chance to trek to the top of the mountain (4,150 m.a.s.l.) to visit the Temples of Pachamama and Pachatata and experience the island’s traditional customs. Enjoy authentic music and a meal prepared by your host family, immersing yourself in their culture.
