Itinerary
Day 1: Beginning of The Choquequirao Trek (Cusco – Chiquisca)
The night before the Choquequirao Trek (Peru) Departure you’ll have a briefing with the guide. This is to inform you about guidelines and safety measures.
For the star of our trip on the Choquequirao Trek Peru we have to rise before the sun. After a hotel pick up, we must leave Cusco before 5:00 am. The drive to the head trail takes around 4 hours. We’ll travel to the Abancay region to the Cachora district.
On the Cachora village we’ll meet with the staff that will ensure comfort along this trek. Here, the staff will organize our packing into the pack animal available. With this we can finally begin the Choquequirao Trek (Peru).
We’ll begin hiking to Choquequirao (Peru) from Cachora. During the first hours we’ll have the amazing views of the Padrayoc and Wayma Cachora snow-capped mountains. Our journey will take us across the Apurimac canyon.
If you want to visit Choquequirao Peru, remember to acclimate previously. This is a high altitude hike. This path is available all year, but outside the dry season is considerably more dangerous. The rainy season brings too much precipitation. This is a concern for tour operators.
As a tour operator we don’t recommend you to book during the rain season. It’s doable, but it increases the danger. Also this could make the need for extra adjustments to the trek.
Apurimac means “the god that speaks”. The canyon is traversed by the Apurimac river. Along this river you’ll find multiple Inca sites. The Apurimac canyon will give us some impressive vistas while we travel.
During the Choquequirao Trek Peru we’ll encounter small villages. We’ll visit La Colmena, Cocamasana, and the Capuliyos observational point. We’ll stop in the sector of Capuliyoc for lunch.
After lunch we’ll continue our journey to Chiquisca. This will be our place to settle camp for the night. This location is surrounded by forest. Before dinner our tour guide will give us a briefing about the next day’s trek.
After this we’ll have a dinner prepared by our staff. We’ll be able to go to sleep soon after.
Day 2: Hiking to Choquequirao (Chiquisca – Choquequirao)
For the second day of our Choquequirao Trek (Peru), we’ll have an early breakfast. The breakfast will be freshly prepared by our staff. After eating we can start the hike.
Our first destination of the day is La Playa Rosalina. A location next to the Apurimac River. So the walk there is down hill. From La Playa Rosalina, we’ll ascend to a place known as Marampampa.
The trail to Choquequirao Peru, will show us some impressive nature. The forest is lush and impressive. In Marampampa we’ll have a delicious lunch. You will have a delightful view while you eat.
After lunch we’ll walk for some more time. And finally we’ll arrive at the legendary Choquequirao (Peru). We’ll install our camp in the camping area. Before the sun goes, we’ll have time for a guided tour around Choquequirao (Peru).
Enjoy a visit to ancient homes, agricultural terraces and temples. If you are lucky, you’ll encounter condors soaring above us.
This will be a comprehensive exploration of Choquequirao (Peru). Finally, we’ll return to our camp to have dinner and rest.
Day 3: Final exploration (Choquequirao – Chiquisca)
We will wake up early. Before lunch you will have the views of dawn over the ancient city. Enjoy the scenery. We’ll prepare for the return.
We have to take our way back to Chiquisca. We’ll first walk to Marampata. From here, we’ll have the final views to Choquequirao.
Enjoy the presence of orchids, this is your last chance to encounter these rare flowers. We’ll be descending towards La Playa Rosalina. In La Playa we’ll enjoy the last lunch our crew will offer.
We’ll encounter small communities again on our way back. The ascent from La Playa to Chiquisca will be a little more difficult.
Our journey on the Choquequirao Trek (Peru) will take us to the campsite in Chiquisca. Here we’ll spend the night. We’ll have the last dinner of the trek.
Enjoy the view of the stars at night. The sky on the Apurimac Canyon is amazing. We’ll rest in our camp in Chiquisca.
Day 4: Return to the Cusco Region (Chiquisca – Cusco)
We’ll have the last breakfast of our Choquequirao Trek (Peru). We have to wake up before 6:00 am. We’ll begin the hike early.
During our return journey, we’ll encounter small villages again. The hike on this day will take about 6 hours. We’ll have a second chance to photograph the Padrayoc and Huayna Cachora snow peaks. Enjoy this view of the Peruvian Andes.
FInally, we’ll arrive in Cachora. Here a private bus will be waiting for us. We’ll say goodbye to some of the staff members. This is the end of our Choquequirao Trek (Peru).
We’ll take our bus back to the Cusco Region. We’ll have a drive across fields in a Andean valley. We’ll be arriving in Cusco around 9:00 pm.

Whether you are short on time or just prefer to do a shorter part of the Inca trail this tour does not disappoint. Our guide Jhimmy was amazing.
